MICROCOMPOUNDER
The AAPPI version of the DSM Xplore twin-screw microcompounder
offers the capability to process small quantities (3 to 15 mL) of
materials for testing and evaluating. The sample size is
particularly attractive when utilizing expensive materials (e.g.
carbon nanotubes, pharmaceuticals).
This compounder is comprised of a fluid-tight mixing compartment
containing two detachable, conical mixing screws. Both the screws
and the housing are treated to be resistant to chemical attack. The
digitally-controlled main drive allows for torque measurements with
continually variable screw speeds up to 250 RPM. The processing
temperature can be adjusted by three front and rear
separately-controlled heating zones. The mixing time can be carried
out via recirculation of the melt.
If used with the medium scale injection molder or film/fiber
extrusion options, the microcompounder is a complete system for
mechanical testing of small amounts of materials on a limited
budget.
